CHANTICLEER
'First class singing, beautifully shaded and coloured.' THE WALL STREET JOURNAL | ![]() |
The members of Chanticleer, the all-male a capella group from San Francisco, are riveting performers with an astonishing range of musical interests. The ensemble's repertoire encompasses everything from 12th century motets to modern madrigals to jazz, gospel and spirituals. It's as if the monks of Montsalvat had met the Neville Brothers.
The group's charm lies in the verve and wit with which it interacts with the audience, a feature making it one of the most popular of its kind in the world. Chanticleer will express different sides of its musical personality in two concerts. The first concert of sacred music includes works by Palestrina, Gabrieli and Mexican baroque composer, Manuel de Sumaya. The other is a programme of their greatest hits with a repertoire from Desprez and Lassus to Kurt Weil, Hoagy Carmichael and Irving Berlin.
Chanticleer's participation in the Biennial Festival of Music has been made possible in part through support from the Fund for US Artists at International Festivals.
