Sydney Symphony Orchestra presents LORIN MAAZEL conducting the SYDNEY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA | ![]() |
Lorin Maazel, internationally renowned conductor, returns to Australia for the first time in more than 20 years. He will conduct two of the finest masterworks in the orchestral repertoire with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, fresh from triumphant tours of Europe and Asia.
Although classical in spirit, Mozart's great G minor symphony, written in 1788, carries within it the power and passion of which Mahler would be a master a century later. Mahler's Fifth symphony is a kaleidoscopic journey from darkness to light, from loneliness and despair to exultant triumph.
Maestro Maazel has generously waived his fee to benefit the internationally respected conservation organisation, World Wide Fund for Nature.
