The Allwrite! committee and the Rural Network welcomes you 
to Allwrite! 1997. We are proud to offer a rich and exciting 
program of discussion panels, Meet the Writer and Writers 
in Conversation sessions in which writers and illustrators 
talk about their writing, read from their work and answer 
questions from their work and answer questions from the 
audience. We are also pleased to include 4 sessions by 
young people and a varied workshop program.

Allwrite Launch Allwrite! invites you to the launch of Australia’s biggest and boldest literature festival for young people. Enjoy a feast of literary activities, appearances by our international guest, British author Jacqueline Wilson, Aboriginal author and artist Sally Morgan , popular writer Morris Gleitzman, plus all our other invited writers and illustrators. MEET THE AUTHORS Sally Morgan Writer and artist Sally Morgan was born in Perth and is descendant of the Palku people of the Pilbara. Her first book, My Place, based on the discovery of the Aboriginality, was a runaway success when published in 1987. Sally has also written the biography of her grandfather, Wanamurraganya: The story of Jack MePhee. Her children’s picture books include Pet Problem, Flying Emu and Hurry Up Oscar! Brownyn Bancroft A descendant of the Bunjalung people of NSW, Bronwyn Bancroft grew up in the small country town of Tenterfield. An artist with an international reputation, Brownyn has also illustrated picture books including Fat and Juicy Place, Stradbroke Dreamtime, The Wheelers, and Dirrangun. Sally and Brownyn recently collaborated on a picture book, Dan’s Grandpa. Allwrite! tent Tuesday 25 March Ruth Starke and John Marsden SA writer and reviewer Ruth Starke (Coming Our, Twist in the Tale) discusses writing with one of Australia’s most successful authors, John Marsden whose books include So much to tell you, Letters from the Inside, Tomorrow when the war began and The Third Day, the Frost. Allwrite! tent Thursday 27 March YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW Port Youth Theatre Workshop’s Aboriginal Writers’ Group presents a rehearsal reading of their play, ‘Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow’ written in conjunction with Elizabeth Mansuitti. This project uses the stories and experiences of Aboriginal women whose lives were changed forever when, a children they were removed from their parents and given to foster families in Adelaide. Others remained with their families in the missions. How did they survive? What wisdom have they learnt? What are their dreams for tomorrow? WRITE OUT! Allwrite! reaches rural; and isolated area by touring fourteen outstanding writers and illustrators throughout South Australia, 17-26 March 1997. They will conduct workshops, give talks and mix with the community. BOOKTALKERS TAKE OVER A stimulating, informative and entertaining day for everyone interested in young people’s literature. SA writer Gillian Rubinstein appears in conversation with British writer, Jacqueline Wilson; and writers and illustrators from around the world, including John Marsden, Jenny Pausacker, Alison Lester and Leigh Hobbs as they discuss current issues in children’s literature. The final session is a Publishing Hypothetical, chaired by Morris Gleitzman, in which a panel of unsolicited manuscripts submitted anonymously by some famous Allwrite! authors. THE BUNYIP and THE NIGHT Exhibition and Activities Venue: Artspace, Adelaide Festival Centre Exhibition: March 21-April 12 The Bunyip and the Night is an exhibition in two parts: 1. The making of the picture book, The Bunyip and the Night 2. What does a Bunyip look like? Examines other images of the Bunyip in literature , stamp design and artworks. BUNYIP WORKSHOPS Children will peruse the exhibition with a quiz sheet, enter a Bunyip Hideout to view a video presentation of The Bunyip and the Night and then join artist Rosella Paletti to make their own bunyip paraphernalia.
