A flute and a sword... a butterfly and an ogre.. a story about the meaning of strength. Inspired by the folk-lore and cultural traditions of Vietnam, The Boy with the Bamboo Flute is a story of an unlikely friendship between a princess and a peasant boy, who must journey into the forest, with only a bamboo flute to defend themselves. Written by Vietnamese Australian artists Ta Duy Binh and Dang Thao Nguyen, mime, dance, martial arts and traditional Vietnamese music combine in a performance that seeks to develop awareness of Vietnamese culture for school audiences.
